We got him for FREE!
Were walking around our new outside mall and went into what used to be an okay pet store. Well, it became a really shitty pet store (it should be shut down, seriously). A realy shitty pet store that didn't want to sell reptiles anymore. They had a sign up that said "FREE SNAKES!"
Of course, we questioned them about it. "Is this a joke?"
Nope. All snakes free. The several hundred dollar Tree Boas, everything.
We went with the Corn Snake (We think of him as a rescue sorta) and brought him home.
We ALMOST named him Severus Snake but figured that would be an overly common name - so we went with Roarschach.
We set up our old turtle equipment and VOILA!
Home, sweet home!
More pics are HERE!
(I want to put a little toy plane in his aquarium, but I don't think Mel will let me :( ;D)
Awww I like the name Rorschach but I LOLed at Severus snake.....though you're right, probably common.
yay! snakes are awesome! she's comparatively little to my nephews snakes he got from his science teacher... houdini is a bit over 4 feet i think. she just layed infertile eggs... it was an adventure.
Rory is still young - I bet he'll get to be a MILLION feet!
OMFG CUTE AND TINY!
I would bet my left arm that he is not just a corn snake. That looks like a hybrid of some kind. The snout is shaped differently from a corn, and the proportions of the back of the head are not the same.
I want to say cornsnake x kingsnake, because he has that neckless prizefighter look, but I don't have much experience with hybrids, and can't be sure without a really good close look at his little head and a real close look at his scales. Are they keeled at all (little ridges running down the middle of the scales) or are they totally glassy smooth? If they're smooth, he's probably a king cross. If they're rough at all, he might have some gopher snake in him.
Since you've got aspen? floof in the bottom of the cage, put him in a separate container to feed him. Don't want him eating any of that stuff.
You are right and awesome!
The terrarium at the shitty shop said "something x corn" or "corn x something" and I'm PRETTY damned sure it was "King".
Yeah - thanks. We're taking all advice we can get! We've been in uber research mode and heard it's good to feed them in separate containers anyway so they don't learn "aggression" in their handling home.
Just went and got him some cool furniture and set him up with a heating pad. About to post more pics!
If you have any questions feel free to ask. Seriously.
He should be super-easy to care for, though. Kings and corns are both sturdy. He won't be any too bright, but that's not really what one keeps snakes for.
ooo ooo here's one!
Everyone in my city seems to be out of Pinkies - you think Rory could handle a fuzzy?
From his size, pretty sure, yeah. It's not hard to find skinny little crawlers in any given litter, and they moosh up pretty good when the snake is swallowing them.
Good thing I wasn't there. O_o Moar snakes pleez! :D
Congrats on your new addition. I'm on a lot of snake forums and that's the first I heard of 'Severus Snake'. That's really cute! Nagini is a first choice for most HP fans. But Rorshcach fits. :)
